Drug name: Flomax (Tamsulosin)
Therapeutic effects:
Flomax is a drug used for the treatment of urination disorders associated with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Its main component – tamsulosin – is a selective competitive blocker of alpha-1 and alpha-1D adrenergic receptors.
Tamsulosin selectively and competitively blocks postsynaptic alpha-1 and alpha-1D adrenergic receptors located in the smooth muscles of the prostate, neck of the urinary bladder, detrusor, prostatic urethra as well as in the body of the bladder. This leads to decreased tone of smooth muscles of the prostate, bladder neck and prostatic urethra.
Tamsulosin promotes improvement of bladder emptying, decrease of residual urine, urination facilitation, relief of obstruction and irritation symptoms caused by (BPH).
Indications:
treatment of dysuria in benign prostatic hyperplasia and other diseases of the prostate gland and lower urinary tract
